The Obituary

The headline read “Marathi made compulsory” in Maharashtra. From now onwards everyone will have to communicate in Marathi irrespective of what they belong to. Only this happened to be a dream which I saw yesterday.

Who knows this could be a reality of tomorrow if we (the people) let things slip-by. Yesterday’s events that lead to a cancellation of a movie premiere have raised a question that has been raised now and then. How would the government be expected to protect its citizens from the unknown threats; when it does very little to threats known to them.

In the midst of all this, the common man is made to suffer by the political parties who are out to seek political mileage. Our colonial rulers came up with “Divide and Rule” policy so as to prevent the unison of people to thwart any attempt of overthrowing their rule. Today, it is our own people who like a wolf in a sheep’s skin are ready to pounce on any opportunity to gather the limelight and show their prowess.

No one can deny that they have succeeded in making their point through hooliganism and terrorizing people with fear.

The people of today are already dead without their conscience. They think this is a phase which would be soon forgotten. They hide in their houses closing the doors and windows to shunt any images of the same falling on them.

What they do forget, is when a glass breaks on the ground the shards of its piece fly everywhere and it hurts when you walk on it.

We have to decide what we want to do, save the glass from breaking or suffer the consequences.

May our conscience rest in peace.

Marathi can not be made compulsory in Mumbai or in Maharashtra for the simple reason that in mMharashtra 5 different types of Marathi are spoken and written. marathi spoken in Mumbai is called Bambaiya language and is different from all the other four types. Konkan belt speaks Konkani mixed marathi which is different from Marathi spoken in Vidarbha and North Maharashtra. Marathwada speaks Urdu mixed Marathi whereas Western Maharashtra speaks purest form of the language. To implement your suggestion, all these regions have to agree upon one and then implement it; which appears to be difficult. There are other problems too.

@ Ramesh.

It is a satirical thought and nothing else, with a view of the events that taken place recently.
